Many photographers will tell you that they were born with a camera in their hand and that they were destined to become a photographer. Richard Windeyer, on the other hand took a slightly longer path to the world of photography. And while he has photos of himself playing with a camera when he was just eighteen months old, it wasn’t until later in life that he chose photography as a career path.

On this path that lead Richard to photography, he was a teacher, a graphic designer, a manager, an international sales & marketing specialist and finally a photographer. Richard spent many years working for a software company that produced popular design and photo editing software. As part of his role as Asia Pacific Marketing Manager, he would travel around Asia Pacific, training designers and professional photographers in the finer details of his company’s products. During these travels he would continuously be photographing the sights, primarily to build a portfolio of images to use in his product demonstrations. During this time a true passion for photography was developed and an inevitable career change started to evolve.

Richard spent several years while still working in the software industry, assisting other photographers on wedding shoots and developing his technique and style. In 2009, Richard Windeyer Photography was established, focusing primarily on the wedding and family portrait market. He has won multiple state, national and international awards for his work in these fields and believes wedding photography is the best form of photography to develop the skills required to make it in the industry. With wedding photography you need to be able to shoot people, groups, landscapes, details all under incredibly restrictive timelines. You need to be able to shoot in all lighting conditions and in any type of weather. And most importantly, you simply MUST get the shot!
